3 Tips To Help Prevent Neck Pain

Brent Chapman

Have you been suffering through some neck pain in recent days? Neck pain usually doesn't just start up on its own. It's usually the result of someone unknowingly putting too much strain on themselves throughout the day. If you want to prevent or reduce the current amount of neck pain you are experiencing, here are some tips that might help.

Stop Staring at Your Phone

There's no doubt at this point that just about everyone is living in the age of the smartphone. You see the devices everywhere, and people are more attached to their phone screens today than they've ever been before. But one problem that can come from staring your phone is that it causes you to stare down far too often. If you start experiencing pain in the back of your neck, it could be because you are keeping your neck at an angle all day long. Take a break from your phone or tablet, and you might just give your neck some relief.

Make Sure You Have Adequate Sleep Support

Another frequent contributor to neck pain could be the way that you sleep. If you ever wake up with a kink in your neck, it could be because you were not positioned properly while resting. Your entire head and the top of the back of your neck should be fully on a pillow while you are trying to sleep. Lying in a way that contorts your body and leaves your neck hanging off the edge of the pillow could end up leading to pain in the morning. While you're at it, don't fall asleep on the armrest of a chair or couch, as this will put your neck at an awkward angle without the support that you need.

Stop Craning

Other people have a habit of craning their neck instead of turning their body when they are trying to reach for something or while speaking to someone who is at their side or behind them. Every time you stretch your neck out like this, you are not doing yourself any good. Keep the items you need most in front of you, or get up and turn your body the next time you need to reach for something.

Neck pain can be caused by a variety of different things, but it's not uncommon to experience some aches and pains after too much time on your phone or after sleeping awkwardly. If the pain persists and is becoming a frequent issue, reach out to a chiropractor for help.

About Me
Staying Safe At Work

After I started working at my dad's lumber yard, I realized that some of my lifting habits were hurting my back. I realized that I couldn't stand up straight without wincing a little bit, so I decided to talk with a chiropractor about the issue. The professional carefully evaluated my condition and told me that I needed to focus on healthier back habits. I was able to learn how to stay safe at work by wearing a back brace and focusing on my posture. I want you to avoid debilitating back pain, which is one of the reasons I made this blog.
