5 Ways To Relieve Back Pain During Pregnancy

Brent Chapman

Back pain is a normal aspect of pregnancy for many women. This makes sense, since after all, your body is suddenly carrying a lot more weight and changing rapidly. Just because back pain is typical during pregnancy, however, doesn't mean you have to suffer patiently without any relief. In fact, there are specific things you can do to find relief from your back pain during pregnancy. Here are five ideas:

Get a Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractors are adept at expertly manipulating your joints in order to relieve back pain. Most chiropractors will also work on your muscles and soft tissue (sometimes incorporating a relaxing but therapeutic massage) and even suggest exercises and stretches you can do at home to help eliminate your back pain altogether.

Take Prenatal Yoga Classes

Yoga can help stretch out sore back muscles and tendons, while also providing strengthening and toning. The stronger your core muscles are, the more easily you will carry the additional weight of pregnancy, and prenatal yoga is a great way to accomplish that. Yoga will also leave you feeling relaxed and centered, which may help as well.

Go Swimming

Swimming is a great way to work out while pregnant, since it's an effective workout while also being safe and low impact. Swimming can also help with back pain. The cool water can relax your sore, overworked back muscles. Swimming will also help tone and strengthen your core and back muscles, which can lead to less pain and even help you have an easier delivery.

Get Proper Support While Sleeping

Sleeping can quickly become uncomfortable as your belly grows, so be sure to make adjustments to your sleeping arrangements as needed. If you've been thinking about upgrading to a better quality mattress or adding a memory foam mattress topper to your existing bed, pregnancy is the time to take the plunge. Some women also find it's helpful to sleep with a body pillow, to provide more support and help balance your weight.

Try a Maternity Belt

A maternity belt is an ultra-supportive garment worn under your clothes, that you can purchase at most maternity clothing shops. The maternity belt provides extra support for your abdomen and back, which helps to relieve back pain and make your pregnancy more comfortable.

By following these tips, you will soon experience relief from your back pain and be able to better enjoy this special time in your life. Contact a practice, such as Summit Chiropractic, for more information.

About Me
Staying Safe At Work

After I started working at my dad's lumber yard, I realized that some of my lifting habits were hurting my back. I realized that I couldn't stand up straight without wincing a little bit, so I decided to talk with a chiropractor about the issue. The professional carefully evaluated my condition and told me that I needed to focus on healthier back habits. I was able to learn how to stay safe at work by wearing a back brace and focusing on my posture. I want you to avoid debilitating back pain, which is one of the reasons I made this blog.
